Use Task Custom Fields

Create project-specific task fields such as text, number, date, or dropdown inputs so the task details panel can capture information that standard fields do not cover.

What custom fields are for

Task custom fields let each project capture its own structured details without forcing the same field across every project.

  • Text fields for free-form project-specific values
  • Number fields for estimates, quantities, or reference values
  • Date fields for deadlines or checkpoints
  • Dropdown fields for controlled project-specific options

Who can manage them

  • Company admins and project admins manage custom fields from Settings
  • Fields are tied to the currently selected project
  • Customer users can see the values in task details but do not manage the field definitions

How the flow works

  1. Select the correct customer and project for your session.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to Task Custom Fields.
  4. Create the label and choose the field type.
  5. If the type is dropdown, define the options before saving.
  6. Open a task and confirm the field appears in task details.

Where else they are used

  • Jira CSV import can create custom fields for unmapped columns
  • Task detail views show and store the field values with the task
  • Different projects can have different custom-field definitions
